CARSON, Wash. — A Washington Dept. of Fish & Wildlife biologist is dead after she drowned in a local river, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff's office said it received a report Wednesday of a woman trapped in Wind River, which is located north of Carson.

First responders tried to reach her, but search & rescue teams from several surrounding counties and the Skamania County sheriff’s dive team were also called to help find her.

They eventually found the woman deceased.

The 31-year-old biologist was conducting a summer steelhead survey for the state Fish & Wildlife department.

The sheriff’s office investigators say her death was accidental.

“This was a tragic accident and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is mournful for the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers,” states Sheriff Summer Scheyer. “I want to extend my utmost gratitude to all of the personnel who responded and assisted our agency in the recovery efforts.”
