Las Vegas police received a 911 call around 10 am about 20 miles northwest of the Vegas Strip, Lieutenant Robert Price with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.

A man stopped by the complex to check on his brother and found several people inside with gunshot wounds, according to police.

Police arrived and four people were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fifth person found "clinging to life," was taken to University Medical Center.

The preliminary investigation indicates the male victim shot three children under the age of 14 and an adult woman before shooting himself, according to Price.

Police said the relationship between the victims will be part of the investigation, but said there was "some sort of tie."

The adult male suspect was under house arrest, Price added, but any further details were still under investigation.

"I wouldn't relate it to anything with the mass shootings," Price responded when asked by reporters about gun violence in Las Vegas.

This tragedy marks the third shooting in the Las Vegas area this December.

On December 1, a gunman fatally shot one person and injured four others at a homeless encampment in the area of Charleston and Honolulu, according to police.

Las Vegas police are still trying to determine who fired the shots and what led to the violence, police said.

On Wednesday, a gunman killed three faculty members and critically wounded another at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The gunman, later named Anthony Polito, was killed by police at the scene.

More than once, Price urged anyone who might be experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, especially during this holiday season, to reach out for help.
