Sona Ram Choudhary is the Congress leader and a former Lok Sabha member from Barmer. Choudhary represented the Barmer Lok Sabha constituency three times in 1996, 1998, and 1999 as Congress candidate. He lost the seat to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Manvendra Singh in 2004. Sona Ram represented the Baytoo Assembly seat in the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha from 2008 to 2013 by defeating BJP's Kailash Choudhary with a margin of 36,418 votes. However, he lost Baytoo to Kailash Choudhary in 2013 with a margin of 13,974 votes. Later, Choudhary joined the BJP and won the Barmer seat again in 2014. He is again with the Congress party and contesting from Gudamalani against BJP's Krishan Kumar Bishnoi in the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023.
