Dust off your crowns and prepare yourselves accordingly because Princess Diaries 3 has officially been confirmed by Disney!

Yes, eighteen years after The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, the eagerly-anticipated third instalment of the popular Princess Diaries sequel is underway with Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji working on the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As of right now, the lead star of the feel-good, coming-of-age comedy film series Anne Hathaway has yet to sign on the dotted line to return as Mia Thermopolis - an awkward and shy teen who must prove her royal worthiness to her grandmother after discovering that she is the princess of a small European state named Genovia.

Her character's grandmother, Her Royal Highness, Queen Clarisse Renaldi, was played by the ever-fabulous Julie Andrews. It also needs to be determined whether icon Julie will return to her role for the third flick.

However, someone who is definitely returning to the movie, which will be a continuation of the story and not a reboot, is producer Debra Martin Chase, who worked on the first two movies.

Despite Anne's fate not yet being confirmed, we don't think you have much to worry about, as in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she expressed her desire for the third movie to come about.

"I would more than entertain it. I'm pulling for it,' Anne said. 'If there's any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen."

And it looks like Anne has been "pulling" for the third instalment for quite some time now, as in early 2019, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she said there was a script in the works. (It seems as though bringing PD3 to life has been through the mill, as the script is now officially being worked on by Aadrita).

Julie, on the other hand, may need more convincing, as in an interview earlier this year with The Hollywood Reporter, she said of a third Princess Diaries movie: "I think it would be too late to do it now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don't think it ever came to pass." It's never too late, Julie!
