BOISE, Idaho - It's a busy, busy weekend up ahead. Some of the world's best professional cyclists are in town for the Exergy Tour.
But it's also a time for reflection with several Memorial Day events planned.
Friday, May 25
Idaho State Trapshooting Championships - South of state prison on Kuna Mora Road - (Friday through Monday 9 a.m. Each day.
Saturday May 26
Wilder Downtown Redevelopment Fundraiser - pancake and sausage fundraiser. 8-10:30 a.m. North of Wilder City Park on Peckham Road.
Memorial Day - May 28
- Memorial Day Celebration at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery - 10 a.m. - 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise
- Memorial Day Celebration at Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa - 10 a.m. - 76 6th Street in Nampa
- St. Jude's Saddle Up Trail Ride and Hike - 10 a.m. Until 2 p.m. - Danskin Power Plant north of Mountain Home Info 587-4537
- Chateau de Boise - Memorial Day picnic and cookout on May 28 at 12:30 p.m. Guests must RSVP by calling 208-322-7277.
- Morris Hill, Pioneer and Military Reserve cemeteries will be open to visitors throughout the Memorial Day weekend, and three veterans groups have special tributes planned on Monday, May 28.
- American Legion Post 49 holding brief ceremony at Emmett Freezout Hill Memorial at 9 a.m. and then another ceremony at the Emmett City Cemetery at 10 a.m.
On Memorial Day, the Veterans of Foreign Wars will put small flags on every grave in the Fields of Honors and Silent Camp at Morris Hill Cemetery. The American Legion will raise American flags around the Mausoleum.
The Idaho Civil War Volunteers will conduct their annual Civil War flag-raising ceremony, eulogy, and gun salute at noon in Silent Camp at the Veterans Monument in Morris Hill Cemetery, and again at 2 p.m. at the Military Reserve Cemetery on Mountain Cove Road off Reserve Street in Northeast Boise. The ceremony pays tribute to fallen soldiers and recognizes the significance of Memorial Day.
Staff at Morris Hill Cemetery, 317 N. Latah St., will be available throughout the weekend to assist visitors to the cemetery. Office hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 26, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 27 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 28. The drive-through gate at
Pioneer Cemetery on Warm Springs Avenue also will be open during these hours.
Visitors are welcome to place artificial flowers, flags, fresh flowers, and wreaths on the graves. Please, no glass containers. All mementos must be picked up by June 4 for those who wish to retain them.
