Michael, 55, thought he was meeting lover Rhiannon, 51, but came face-to-face with her husband brandishing a .22 Colt rifle.
Jones shot him in the face and later used a digger to lift the body on to a bonfire but a tiny piece of the corpse was discovered, a court heard.
The building and farming boss showed no emotion yesterday as he was found guilty of the murder in a South Wales village.
He admitted setting fire to the body but claimed the gun went off accidentally as he tried to scare him.
However, prosecutor William Hughes told jurors: “The murder was carefully planned and undertaken.”
The two men had been friends for 25 years before the affair.

When Jones found out, mum-of-three Rhiannon claimed it was over because Michael would not leave his wife.
But Jones, of Bronwydd, Carmarthenshire, discovered it was still going on and lured dad-of-three Michael to a farm in nearby Nantgaredig.
He will be sentenced later this month at Swansea crown court.
