BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Idaho Department of Lands reports that so far year-to-date a total of 2,464 acres have burned from a total of 237 fires across the state.
IDL is not responsible for fighting all of the fires in Idaho, so this update does not cover fires that have been managed by outside of their protection areas. Major fires IDL managed this year so far include the Old Ahsahka Fire, the Parkway Fire, Tyson Fire, and Goldrun Fire, all of which are now 100% contained.
A major fire outside of IDL protection is the East Fire, currently burning about 10 miles east of Cascade. That fire is being managed by the Boise National Forest and is currently estimated at 3,342 acres burned, almost a thousand acres larger than the totality of IDL fires combined. The East Fire is currently 15% completed contained with over 400 fire personnel battling the blaze.
The Hayden Fire, which is also outside of IDL protection, has burned 24,706 acres so far through the Salmon-Challis National Forest. That fire is being managed by the Salmon-Challis National Forest and is currently at 84% containment.
