FOR one gardening guru it seemed that there was no time like the present for preparing her garden for the spring.
She was certainly getting a head start on keeping her yard healthy and weed-free.

"This is the best thing you can do for your garden to get it ready for 2024," said Emma (@emmasallotmentdiaries).
According to her, great gardens start with great soil.
"If you haven't already mulched over your beds, now is a great time to do it," she said.
Emma recommended using cardboard for her first base as she showed off her large backyard.

It was no wonder she wanted to get an early start on her spring greenery.
"Not only does it repress weeds, it also retains water and adds great structure to your beds," she said.
Using cardboard means you don't have to buy anything new - and she wasn't done just yet.
She watered the cardboard down with a hose to get everything to break down quicker while also attracting one very helpful creature.

"It also attracts all the worms. I don't know why worms love cardboard but they really do, and they are great for your soil," she said.
She then moved on to her last and final phase.
She topped up with a big bag of compost, though she also said that natural materials such as leaves, wood chips, or straw would do the trick.

"Your garden should be ready to plant into in the spring," she said.
Excited for her future greenery, Emma happily threw some compost in the air.
