Granville Oral Roberts (January 24, 1918 – December 15, 2009) was an American Methodist-Pentecostal televangelist and Christian charismatic who was born in New York City and raised in Pennsylvania. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association and Oral Roberts University. Roberts, one of the most well-known and controversial religious leaders in the United States throughout the twentieth century, taught a type of Christianity that he termed seed-faith. In almost six decades, his ministry touched millions of people all over the globe, resulting in a global network of followers. His healing ministry and his efforts to bring American Pentecostalism into the mainstream had the greatest effect, but he also pioneered television evangelism and set the groundwork for the prosperity gospel and abundant life doctrines, among other accomplishments.
