AN ITALIAN Ballon d'Or winner looks unrecognisable from his 1994 World Cup heyday but the former midfielder has kept his trademark facial hair decades on.

His more notable spells came at Fiorentina, Juventus, AC Milan, Bologna, Inter and Brescia.
Wherever the attacking midfielder went, he scored goals.
Despite suffering a brutal cruciate ligament injury in his early playing days, the curly-haired, goatee-rocking 5ft9 ace went on to score 278 goals and provide 152 assists in 605 games.
He also scored 27 goals for Italy but only managed to pick up a World Cup runner-up medal in 1994 where they lost to Brazil on penalties after he skied his effort.

Surprisingly, most of his honours were individual.
The Caldogno-born ace only won five trophies in his 22-year career.
Serie A title wins came at Juventus and Milan.
Coppa Italia and Uefa Cup glory also came at the Old Lady in the 90s.

He then retired in 2004 having helped Brescia avoid relegation in all four seasons of playing there.
The No10 shirt was retired in his honour.
The inaugural Golden Foot winner also hung up his boots at international level the same year.
