Chilling phone calls, continued
John Ray continued: "They play news reports from the Shannon Gilbert case from sometime around 2011 or 2012 and make noises in the background at the same time.
"Then they say some nasty things or weird things to let us know that, whoever it was, they wanted to make sure we connected the call to the Gilgo situation."
Ray said the callers made threats against him on numerous occasions and appeared to be watching him.
"One time they called us, and I had just got home at nine o'clock and we were eating a later dinner, and the phone rang and they said, 'I hope you're enjoying dinner.'
"Then this person, a few seconds later, said, 'I hope you enjoy your pizza.'
"Within seconds, our doorbell rang, and - we live up in a dark area up on a hill - there was the guy delivering three pizzas. And we didn’t order the pizzas.
Victims attorney received chilling phone calls
Attorney John Ray who is representing the families of Shannan Gilbert and Jessica reportedly received taunting and threatening phone calls from a man and woman for months that ended a week before suspect Rex Heuermann's arrest.
Ray said, was a series of disturbing and threatening phone calls he started receiving in January from a so-far unidentified man and woman.
The calls, which ceased just last week, were made to Ray's home address, to various family members, and to his law office frequently over the last six months, he claims.
Each of the calls was connected in some way, he continued and often followed the same pattern.
"The same language is used, the same tape recordings are used, it’s the same eerie voices and crazy sounds that are used in every one of those calls," said Ray.
Notes from court today
It was revealed in court earlier today that Rex Heuermann had four separate burner phones, fake Gmail accounts, and a license for 92 handguns.
The burner phone was always located close to Rex's personal cell phone.
When Rex was arrested his burner phone and Chevy Avalanche were confiscated by officials.
Suspect researched serial killers online, prosecutors say
Suspect Rex Heuermann continuously searched for updated news about the Long Island Serial Killer and other wanted murderers, according to court documents submitted by prosecutors.
Between 2022 and 2023, Heuermann made at least 200 related searches, including queries like:
- “why could law enforcement not trace the calls made by the long island serial killer”
- “why hasn’t the long island serial killer been caught”
- "11 Currently Active Serial Killers”
- “8 Terrifying Active Serial Killers (We Can’t Find)”
- “Inside the Long Island Serial Killer and Gilgo Beach”
Suspect sought "violent, sadistic, and child pornography" online, prosecutors say
Suspected Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann used burner phones and junk email addresses to view and download a lot of pornography, prosecutors alleged in court documents.
"There appears to be a clear pattern wherein Heuermann used 'burner' phones and 'burner'/'junk' email addresses "to contact sex workers and sex partners" and "to conduct extensive searches related to sex and prostitution, violent, sadistic, and child pornography," they wrote.
Prosecutors included a list of 30 violent or illegal search phrases Heuermann used to find porn online.
Suspect may have used Tinder to find victims, prosecutors say
Investigators found a profile of Rex Heuermann on the dating app that they were able to link to burner phones and email addresses associated with the suspect, court documents filed by prosecutors revealed.
He used the fictitious name “Andrew Roberts" on the app, an alias police say he used often to contact sex workers through other websites as well.
It is not yet clear if he met any of his victims through Tinder or any other dating apps.
