Boise, ID (CBS2) — The Idaho National Guard is gearing up for the Gowen Thunder air show that is taking place this weekend at Gowen Field.

CBS2's Sophia Doumani hit the skies with the Golden Knights, an elite group of skydivers, to find out more.

"We're out here in Idaho to showcase our young men and women of the US Army and also with the thunderbirds. it's an honor to be out here it's a special blessing for me because I'm the oldest guy on the parachute team." says pilot Kenneth Breeden

The US Army parachute team boarded a dash8 and took to the ski where 9 dived out of the plane with smoke grenades to put on a colorful show as they soared through the air.

Becoming a member of this parachute team is no easy task, Staff Sergeant Kyle Mead says "You have to have a clean military and civilian record, and you have to have 100 free fall parachute jumps. I made it and it's the best thing that ever happened to me."

You can see the Golden Knights perform their aerial show at the air show on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Admission is free and there will be food and drink vendors.
