AS Amazon looks to boost sales in its brick and mortar stores, the company is launching nationwide Prime Day discounts a week early – but only for eligible shoppers.

Across the country, hundreds of retailers are closing as in-person stores struggle amid a growing trend being dubbed the “retail apocalypse.”

In part due to this, Amazon has ceased its plans to grow its physical store fleet under the Amazon Fresh brand.

However, the ecommerce company still has a plan to boost sales traffic – namely by offering the massive discounts Amazon Prime Day is known for on its online marketplace.

Next week, Amazon will be offering the sales from July 11 to 12, but at Amazon Fresh, the discounts are already underway in the days leading up to the companywide sale event.

The one caveat remains that you must be a Prime member in order to secure the savings.

DEALS AVAILABLE

From July 6 until July 10, Prime member customers who spend more than $50 at Amazon Fresh stores will get 20 percent off all in-store purchases.

And, in what is even more exciting for regular Amazon Fresh shoppers, you’ll be able to earn 25 percent off $50 and up purchases.

However, that’s just the start of the potential savings as Amazon has also indicated it will be marking down specific groceries and offering buy one get one deals.

Those with a Prime Visa card can also earn 6 percent back on all Prime Day shopping at any Amazon Fresh location.

This might make signing up for the card worthwhile, especially as the company has confirmed everyone who applies for a Prime Visa through July 26 will receive a $200 Amazon gift card.

All Amazon Go stores, which operate as Amazon Fresh’s tech-forward convenience store alternative, will offer the same deals in July, both on and leading up to Prime Day.

The company said those who spend more than $10 in stores will get $5 cashback on their next shopping trip.

Amazon is also expanding the deals to one of its acquired companies Whole Foods Market.

To celebrate Prime Day, the grocer will be offering 35 percent off ice cream and frozen desserts through July 18 and 25 percent off hot dogs from July 12 to 18.

Whole Foods was purchased by Amazon in 2017 for $13.7billion.

NEW STORES

Amazon’s physical storefronts have so far struggled to keep up with financial expectations as brick and mortar retailers dwindle and shoppers fully migrate toward online shopping.

Earlier in 2023, Amazon announced it would be closing multiple Amazon Go locations and no more Amazon Fresh stores would be opening in the near future.

"We're not going to expand the physical Fresh doors until we have that equation with differentiation and economic value that we like, but we're optimistic that we're going to find that in 2023," chief executive officer Andy Jassy said previously, according to Business Insider.

Prime Day is an effort to turn those sales trends around.

Last year, Prime members purchased more than 300million products during the event, and the company has seen a huge boost in spending ever since the first Prime Day launched in 2015.

To date, Amazon operates around 40 Fresh stores nationwide.

EVEN MORE SAVINGS

Amazon’s Prime Day isn’t the only massive savings to take place for the company during July.

A Raymate Bluetooth speaker is on sale on Amazon’s website with a staggering price drop by 77 percent.

While the original price of the speaker was $76.63, the discounted price is $22.97, saving shoppers $53.66.

It features a 3600mAh high-capacity battery which provides more than 15 hours of play time, according to the product description.

The speaker comes with a USB-C charging port, as well.

The Insignia 50-inch Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV is also on sale.

The Fire TV was originally $350, but it was discounted to $199.

But other companies are hosting summer savings events as well.

At Macy’s, the ‘Black Friday in July’ sale has commenced.

That means shoppers will see 75 percent off select items from July 6 to 12.

"From jewelry to handbags, home items, shoes, watches, and more, shoppers can score irresistible deals on must-have products, making this summer truly unforgettable," the company wrote in a press release about the event.

The sale is limited to in-store purchases, curbside pick-up, buy online-pick-up in-store, buy online-ship to store, and same-day delivery with DoorDash.

Target also announced its Target Circle Week  from July 9 to July 15.

If one of the lucky Target Circle members, you can grab deals as low as $1.

Walmart has also slashed the cost of its subscription program in half.
