In response, the video creator wrote back: "same, like 1. why does the thermostat play music and 2. why is it better sound quality than my actual bluetooth speaker."

REDDIT COMPLAINTS

On other platforms like Reddit, users have expressed similar issues with the Ecobee smart thermostat.

One complained that, despite not even having a Spotify account, their thermostat would randomly play top hits on Spotify at 1 am.

They wrote: "Really wish ecobee would not automatically expose itself as a music speaker. It's really not purpose built for it."

Another Reddit user said that their Ecobee was playing audio from their Apple TV.

To fix this issue, one user commented to do the following: "Alexa app > Devices > select the room it’s in > scroll down to Speakers to select which play music.”

Others took to Reddit to complain about issues with Alexa's ability to change the thermometer's temperature via voice commands.

Regarding customer complaints about music randomly playing, Ecobee said: "this is not a common issue,” in a statement to the Daily Dot.

“It can be resolved with Alexa voice commands or controlling the music on Alexa or music apps like Spotify that may be connected on the same network via Alexa, Bluetooth, or AirPlay.”
